Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions,health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

An online platform to connect members of the community with corporation to be created. . Citizens can submit ideas on how to improve their city and will work together with elected representatives to develop solutions to local problems, resulting in creative grassroots solutions and a mechanism for bottom-up reform of outdated municipal processes and regulations.

Use digital and low-tech strategies to create a network of family members, friends, neighbors, social workers, and volunteers who together make up a "trust network" for each at-risk elderly resident. This will help identify gaps in care, enable coordination of support, and promote quality of life.

I am a citizen of Chennai. I wish the following changes as part of Smart City. 1)Good Motor-able Roads 2)The manholes on the center of roads either should be replaced on the sides of the roads or should be filled with Tar making it flat on par with surface of the road. 3)Encroachments on the footpath should be removed with any fear for political parties 4)All Medians should be planted with Trees and should be well maintained 5)All works being carried should be done with perfection.

Water tax credit for communities/wards where water table increases significantly due to rain water harvesting. Probably a 5% decrease in yearly water tax bill. Though amount is small, it might serve as encouragement. Probably an increase in wards where water table is dropping to get the money and the government can implement the scheme for the wards falling behind. Measurement of water table at street level or word level can be done.

A smart city must improve resident’s standards of living, also must provide positive investment climate for businesses, and equips governments to maximize resource utilization and provide transparency

Smart city must have 24X7 water supply with water treatment plant and pumping station, Complete sewerage network with sewage treatment plant, Storm water drainage system, Solid waste management system, Power transmission and distribution system, Domestic gas distribution system, Street lighting, CCTV and SCADA system, safety and security system, Information and communication technology (ICT) etc

Procure e-governance services rather than procuring hardware, software, services, and networks separately. This will bring about a more outcome based procurement model as compared to the current outlay oriented model. this will integrate all the solutions under one service

commercial areas and shopping areas need to focussed as part of smart cities such as T Nagar where lot of congestion exists and residents are also sufferring. please do something about it.

To avoid paper posters on walls stuck mostly for small businesses/theatres ads., we can use digital scrollers used in foreign countries on street corners and bus stations. This can be set-up by Corporation as a PPP, charging advertisers at a low rates. We can earn revenue on this as well. The electronic/digital scrollers can be powered by solar power to keep our walls clean, help small medium businesses advertising digitally, help govt. earn revenue and going green at the same time.
