Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

In Continuation of my earlier comment, today we have 2 to 3 signal slights within 500 m stretch. Since it is manually operated, there is no coordination between policemen between these traffic lights. If you are unlucky you have to stop in all the 3 lights within this 500m stretch. I am talking about traffic light past Raj Bhavan towards guindy, one more near road leading to velachery. Can this be streamlined. There are many traffic lights like this. Can we identify & do this. Can be done.

Automating Traffic lights - Can we make Chennai a smart city by automating traffic lights. Today it is controlled by policemen by manually operating it. You have CCTV cameras installed in all important traffic lights and this can be automated based on density of traffic in each side. This will also help to ease congestion instead of force fitting for 10 minutes in one directions. As OMR in Chennai is an important IT stretch, can they start the pilot in TIDEL park signal.

Speed Monitoring System : Sensors deployed in important traffic signals, accident prone places, near the vicinity of schools to check over speeding vehicles and the riders should be intimated through SMS, repeated offenders should be penalized on incremental basis. Convergence App : An Application should provide information location & estimated arrival of all government owned fleets Viz.trains, buses etc. so that citizens can plan thie travel instead of waiting infinitely for Public transport

1. All Roads (which are either maintained and owned by corporation or state govt or central pwd or cpwd) should have vehicles in running mode only. No parking of vehicles to be allowed in any of these roads. Like Helmet rule, a rule like "Two or Three or Four wheeler vehicles which are parked on the roads , Tyres will be punctured by Traffic police or towing the vehicle or some thing like penalty in excess of Rs.1000/ - should be done ".
