Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

Continuation ..... 2. Parking is another major criteria for new city development. Usually the requirement is underestimated while planning. Need for truck terminal in the periphery of the smart city. 3. Create a mass transit system and hop in hop off public transport systems to reduce the use of private transport

To create a smart city the following are some of the steps that one needs to consider . 1. Zoning ( Commercial , Residential , industrial )is a major criteria for master plan. The major problem faced in growing cities is zoning which is often not considered. There is no need for Mixed residential zone as this creates lot of congestion in the neighborhood. For residential zones allocate retail zones for convenience of residents. Offer approvals based on zoning .

planning is the responsibility ofthe residents ofthe ward and not the corportionstaff or the councillors. Each ward should have its contribution for its well being. No GOs or government interference allowed in this micro planning. No rigid template like provisions in the making the locality a livable one.The creativity of the citizens should replace the outdated bureaucratic stereo type work plan. The people's' views pros and cons tobe again discussed by the peoples'forum. Their approval is final.
