Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th November, 2015.

- Lot of wires hanging around the street lamp posts, mainly cable TV wires. Can we not provide a method to route such wires? This is another area because of which the city does not look good. - Provide Wi-fi hot spots in important public places to make the city smarter.

- Digging of road is another big issue. Corporation lays very good roads and immediately after that, the road is dug for some reason. Is there any way,we can stop this? I don't see such thing happening in other countries. If we avoid this happening, roads will become much better.

- Traffic police is doing a very good job in Chennai. The way they monitor, regulate the traffic, making changes in routes, etc. are very very appreciable. The cameras are also installed in most of the junctions. They should become very strict and based on camera findings, they should impose penalties by sending notices. That's how we can bring in traffic discipline in the city.

- Ban stickers and posters in the city. They only make the city to look ugly, compared to other foreign countries. Every where on the walls, EB boxes, Transformer boxes, etc. various companies put their stickers. Government should take strict action against them and impost penalty. When Govt. can strictly implement the same for Govt Buses, it is possible for public places also.

- Why don't Government stop licenses of plastic carry bag manufacturing industries? I don't see any point in first allowing them to manufacture them and then trying to curb the usage of plastic carry bags.

I would recommend the following to make Chennai, as a smart city :- - Driving has become a menace in city road because of the 2 wheeler riders who keep riding all across the road. Please implement a system so that they can ride on left side of the road always other than junctions.

Our biggest problem is Drainage overflows & non-clearing of wastes taken out-of the Drainage lines on the roads, improper placing & bad conditions of dust-bins leading to health hazard & traffic congestion in almost all places. Lack of Strictness with corporation people on the public who are careless & lazy & lethargic in their responsibility. Then Proper Implementation of Code of Conduct in our Educational System.
