“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents but a loan from our children.” ---Anonymous

Energy resources have transformed human lives and lifestyles. Energy resources have allowed for human achievement and ambition to move from the potter’s wheel, farmer’s plough and the weaver’s loom to space missions and robots among others. However, the modern world looms in the shadow of a severe energy crisis: the result of unsustainable and inefficient use of energy resources.

Unsustainable and inefficient energy consumption threatens the very basis of life as we have come to know it. In the face of the increasing scarcity of energy resources it is imperative that we launch a committed, concerted and cumulative effort towards holistic energy use habits and sustainable consumption patterns.

Energy conservation most importantly means that conservation becomes an all pervasive habit, an everyday philosophy and practice that aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, adoption of energy efficient lifestyles and fostering innovations in green and clean energy technologies.

D&NHPDCL invites suggestions, guidance, comments from citizens, self-help groups, environmental organisations towards developing Energy Conservation as a habit towards an energy secure future.

https://sweden.se/nature/the-swedish-recycling-revolution/ India is behind even Kenya in research work.so I suggest to go through above link and learn how Sweden uses its 99% waste...even they import 7,00,000 ton waste from other country.

Govt. should encourage manufacture and use of electric/Hybrid cars/vehicles for personal use. Diesel vehicle should be allowed only for Goods Transport like Trucks. It will substantially reduce Oil import bill and reduce air pollution. CNG should be supplied to rural areas also, being cost effective and less air polluting. Auto manuf. Lobby may not like this.

Barter system can help to reduce waste.for instance lets take so snd so kilo of tetra waste pack for so and so kilo of rice or wheat or off in transport fair.this will encourage people to submit the waste at right place.the inspector of government departmental store will inspect the waste.pack and label it with required information like date name etc then submit it to recycle industries so that they can use it as raw material to make eco friendly product.advantage here is you get sorted waste.

IN URBAN AREAS STREET LIGHTS MUST BE POWERED THROUGH SOLAR POWER. ALSO IN COASTAL CITIES POWER SHOULD BE GENERATED FROM GREEN AND CARBON FREE SOURCES LIKE WAVE OR WIND ENERGY.

For a start, the govt. can adopt best practices in its own office buildings. Instead of using many light fixtures of low intensity, we should move towards better use of light fixtures, such that the light fixtures used consume less power yet give brighter illumination (as is the case with LEDs). They should also be strategically placed to ensure maximum illumination of the required area with the least number and luminous intensity of light fixtures.

The govt. runs many public washrooms and similar infrastructure throughout the country. Quite often, we turn on the taps and forget to turn them off. In such a case, we can learn from foreign countries. A simple spring mechanism in the tap would ensure that once it is pressed/opened, it would automatically turn off after a specific amount of time. This would curb the nuisance of running water being lost due to unclosed taps, which I guess is a huge amount.

Waste and garbage are mostly turned to ashes and this energy can be utilized for generating energy to withstand cold during winters. Sweden imports garbage for the energy needs for instance.
