“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents but a loan from our children.” ---Anonymous

Energy resources have transformed human lives and lifestyles. Energy resources have allowed for human achievement and ambition to move from the potter’s wheel, farmer’s plough and the weaver’s loom to space missions and robots among others. However, the modern world looms in the shadow of a severe energy crisis: the result of unsustainable and inefficient use of energy resources.

Unsustainable and inefficient energy consumption threatens the very basis of life as we have come to know it. In the face of the increasing scarcity of energy resources it is imperative that we launch a committed, concerted and cumulative effort towards holistic energy use habits and sustainable consumption patterns.

Energy conservation most importantly means that conservation becomes an all pervasive habit, an everyday philosophy and practice that aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, adoption of energy efficient lifestyles and fostering innovations in green and clean energy technologies.

D&NHPDCL invites suggestions, guidance, comments from citizens, self-help groups, environmental organisations towards developing Energy Conservation as a habit towards an energy secure future.

The Street lights in any city come under the corporation's ambit. They are turned on very early even though there sufficient day light. And they are still on after the sun rises next day. Agreed that the corporation pays the bill to the distribution company. But even then its waste of the power and waste of public money.I do not know how the street lights are operated, but if they are put on timer then it will save a lot of power.

One can conserve energy by using traditional methodologies by using mud-pots instead of coolers for water and by cutting down on the outdoor light fixtures and LED Decorative lights that one often sees outside showrooms and marriage halls.

When we talk about air the pollution of air is major concern.Major public transport vehicles are very old and so they consume more fuel. They also pollute the air. Need to upgrade the public transport system.

Two days back I travelled to Mumbai by bus. It was a very good experience. On way I saw so many private vehicles plying on the express way. Around 50% vehicles had only single passenger. This is a sheer waste of fuel. If we opt for public transport, the no of vehicles on road will reduce. This will decongest the roads. Which in a way will reduce traffic jams.

Food wastage in India is huge.People in cities have huge amounts of money but do not know the pain a farmers undergo to cultivate each grain. I suggest Govt of India should introduce FOOD WASTAGE TAX.No exceptions to this tax, religious institutions, function halls , hotels, residential areas all must pay. Tax must very huge atleast Rupees 1000 per 100 gms. Every day waste must be separated as dry, wet and food waste and tax must be collected on the spot by waste disposal authorities.

1. Mandatory solar/wind power generation for private/public institutions/enterprise a part of fraction of total energy conservation can be fixed like 20-40%. 2. Subsidised solar/wind power system equipment or tax benefits for people investing money in solar/wind power systems at their homes. 3. Encourage people use bicycles in metro cities where traffic creates pathetic condition in peak hours like delhi, noida etc, here there should be safe secure bicycle tracks on all major roads.
