“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents but a loan from our children.” ---Anonymous

Energy resources have transformed human lives and lifestyles. Energy resources have allowed for human achievement and ambition to move from the potter’s wheel, farmer’s plough and the weaver’s loom to space missions and robots among others. However, the modern world looms in the shadow of a severe energy crisis: the result of unsustainable and inefficient use of energy resources.

Unsustainable and inefficient energy consumption threatens the very basis of life as we have come to know it. In the face of the increasing scarcity of energy resources it is imperative that we launch a committed, concerted and cumulative effort towards holistic energy use habits and sustainable consumption patterns.

Energy conservation most importantly means that conservation becomes an all pervasive habit, an everyday philosophy and practice that aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, adoption of energy efficient lifestyles and fostering innovations in green and clean energy technologies.

D&NHPDCL invites suggestions, guidance, comments from citizens, self-help groups, environmental organisations towards developing Energy Conservation as a habit towards an energy secure future.

1) Regarding Fuel - Solar charging bikes & cars should be made compulsory at least for cities. For long distance, hybrid cars & bus should be made compulsory. Google it and you will find their are already many mfg. around the world. 2) Regarding water - All new govt. & pvt. constructions, rain water harvesting should be made compulsory. 3) Regarding awareness - From school stage, students should be shown Energy conservation advt. daily after prayers in school and have some exams yearly.

Approval of building plans for multistoried flat and buildings will be given only by including at least half the energy efficient solar panel, bio gas plant, arrangements for the disposal of plastic wastes and other e-wastes. Give attractive offers to those who reduce their energy consumption. Give punishment to those who violate the laws. Awareness programme conducted regularly in schools & other institutions about the importance of energy conservation. .

It all starts at a personal level. -Don't keep the tap running while brushing or bathing. -Don't keep the AC or lights on when not required. -Shift to alternative energy sources like solar energy, etc. In the big picture, I hope the BRICS Bank will provide funding for using renewable sources of energy in the member nations. Let's make this world a better place!!

An efficient life style is, to maximize use of public transport system, is to walk to local market for shopping instead of using vehicle, to pool car while going for work or picnic, to design home in such a way to maximize use of natural light and ventilation, use solar power converters, use energy efficient lighting fixtures and equipment such as LED & Star rated refrigerators, to do physical exercise to produce mechanical energy to do domestic work, to do regular maintenance of cars, scooter,
