We need to bring 'Jugaad', 'learn by doing' concepts into our education system. We need to allow the students to grow at their own pace. We need to allow students to choose their own path and not restrict them by strict qualification requirement sand water tight compartments. Allow students to slice, dice, and merge streams, subjects and curricula to allow them to apply knowledge for innovation.

Our education system, parenting philosophy and work ethics kill innovation rather than promote it. We got scolded by parents and were asked to 'shut up' when we asked too many questions. We were beaten with a ruler by the class teacher for being purely inquisitive. Professor threw us out of the class for challenging his/her hypothesis. The teachers grossly lowered the annual rating because we had too much independent thinking!

Our Education system was designed by the British to create clerks. After Independence none of the leaders had the willingness or the courage to change it. As a result we have produced generations of people who are good at following the orders - dotting the 'i' and crossing the 't'. Independent thinking and Innovation was never allowed to germinate and grow.

The schools and colleges are teaching an age old curriculum that is seldom updated and is far removed from the industry requirements. What is the use of teaching something that is archaic and cant make students directly employable and productive.
