There is a need to improve access to child health services. The Ministry of Health is focusing on promoting child health through appropriate interventions. Presently, the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD addresses the nutritional needs of school going children in the age group of 6-14 years through the Mid- Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under WCD also addresses the issues of child health. There is, however, a need to synergize the multi-sectoral interventions taken by the relevant GOI Ministries. The existing schemes need to be examined for their outcomes and impediments in implementation, including those of coordination. This theme seeks views and suggestions on how to ensure greater focus on child through improvements in existing schemes and suggest new holistic interventions.

Education must groom children towards Physical, Mental and Social health. Yoga, excercises, meditation and community work should be part of the education system. Education must teach human values and enable children to become better individuals, participating family members, responsible citizens, helpful community members and thoughful leaders. They must also be provided vocational training, and life skills like cooking, cleaning, organizing, teamwork, cooperation, building and creativity.

Good education is foundation of all culture, behaviour, values, virtues & progress. Its lack is the cause of mental, moral & social decline. सुशिक्षा संस्कृति, सभ्यता, शालीनता, समृधी और सदगुणों का मूल है । सुशिक्षा का आभाव ही मनुष्य के मानसिक, नैतिक और समाजिक पतन का कारण है । The purpose of education is to build responsible citizens who contribute to peace,wellness & prosperity of people in society. भारत की हर पाठशाला में योगाभ्यास आध्यात्मिक और संस्कृति शिक्षण अनिवार्य रूप से होना चाहिये।

The advocators of child-labor demolition have done a great in-justice to many families of India. A child not going to school because he/she has to work is definitely a crime and must be stopped, however a child going to school and yet want to support his/her family with any work that can be done safely by him/her must be supported. That develops self-reliance, provides motivation, makes them physically and mentally strong. Please encourage this and provide proper environment, laws to support it.

Countries like Canada do have a scheme in which for people earning less than certain amount of money will get child support amount deposited to their bank account monthly. Though this is a good scheme, it is being abused in Canada and it could be easily abused in India. Parents can take the money and the kid can remain poor. Don't implement it.

The mid-day meal attracts kids from poor families. However it becomes source of corruption. Local contractors prepares food with no control over quality and quantity. A simple but effective way to reduce the cost & effectiveness. Instead locally prepared perishable food, provide nutrition bar, Kellogg's bar, chiki, til-gud laddu like food at a central location, pack it and distribute it across the country. It would be rich in nutrients, less wastage and can save crores of government money.

The students entering the educational institutions should be healthy in all aspects to acquire the required skills in the field. They should be provided with the state insurance coverage for periodical check ups and making available the required medical treatment during the course of studies. The burden of meeting the treatment costs should be met through such insurance coverage since most of such students in our country may hail from economically middle/weaker class or lower backward community.
