There is a need to improve access to child health services. The Ministry of Health is focusing on promoting child health through appropriate interventions. Presently, the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD addresses the nutritional needs of school going children in the age group of 6-14 years through the Mid- Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under WCD also addresses the issues of child health. There is, however, a need to synergize the multi-sectoral interventions taken by the relevant GOI Ministries. The existing schemes need to be examined for their outcomes and impediments in implementation, including those of coordination. This theme seeks views and suggestions on how to ensure greater focus on child through improvements in existing schemes and suggest new holistic interventions.

Child health mainly depends upon healthy habits, regarding right daily schedule, balanced diet, cleanliness, hygiene, exercises/ yoga etc. all of these can be taught in schools and teacher's own behaviour. So, teacher's must be given training for inculcating such healthy habits. it will also improve teacher's own health, their family's health and thereby school children's health and whole society's health and habits.

Traditional Ayurvedia/Unani methods must be encourage to increase child immunity. I know few projects in Gujarat where School Children are given dose of "Suvarnaprashan" on specific days that helps in improving immunity. This is similar to vaccination.

Formulating Schemes is an important aspect of governance, no doubt, it exhibits good intentions, agreed, but most important part of governance is the implementation of the policies which takes them to the people percolating their benefits to them (the people), to the last person in the farthest cornor of the land. And, CHILD HEALTH, AND EDUCATION, ARE SUCH SECTORS OF POLICY MAKING WHICH NEED TO REACH THE LAST CHILD IN THE FARTHEST CORNOR. ALAS! IT CAN'T BE SAID THAT IT HAS HAPPENED.
