There is a need to improve access to child health services. The Ministry of Health is focusing on promoting child health through appropriate interventions. Presently, the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD addresses the nutritional needs of school going children in the age group of 6-14 years through the Mid- Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under WCD also addresses the issues of child health. There is, however, a need to synergize the multi-sectoral interventions taken by the relevant GOI Ministries. The existing schemes need to be examined for their outcomes and impediments in implementation, including those of coordination. This theme seeks views and suggestions on how to ensure greater focus on child through improvements in existing schemes and suggest new holistic interventions.

School children sit for 6 hrs in one place. Too much emphasis is on exams and marks and rote learning. Everyday 1 hr should be dedicated for yoga or any sport or any form of team exercise

Make a secondary school for class 6-12 students change the current education mode.First give them option to choose a subject which he like most and others subject made optional in which he only need to pass or give the exam Let think what will happen if we put our whole energy in one idea?As Swami Vivekanand said "Take up one idea make that one idea of your life think of it dream of it live on that idea let the brain, nerve every part of your body full of that idea & just leave every other idea "

Focus on mental health. Parents will take care of his physical health. A child can be moulded by parents & primary school teachers. We need competent teachers who will have patience towards slow learners. Learning should be a pleasure & not pain so that a child will be attracted to the class room. Reduction of weight of the class bag is essential. Make the child free from physical & mental stress.Slow learners can have mental disability, or stress in the family. A good teacher can help him out.

Can Success of Akshay Patra Not be replicated by more agencies - who can be trained under them and can be rolled out in different states. The meal - Khichdi etc - should be nutritious by adding soya, kidney beans etc as ingredients. Having different Menu on all days helps to keep interest in Food. CSR funding can be used to have Akshay Patra -1, 2, 3 etc in all districts- ofcourse with proper training, infrastructure and close monitoring.

Since Yoga is now accepted by UN and World, its high time, it should be introduced in all schools as compulsory subject. This has multiple advantages - better health, mind and overall development of children. Yoga is nothing to do with religion & more to do with health and mind.
