India has a long tradition of excellence in making handloom products with extraordinary skills and craftsmanship. 44 lakh weavers are engaged in this activity, out of which 78% are women.

By the Handlooms (Reservation of Articles for production) Act, 1985, the Central Government has reserved articles or class of articles for exclusive production of handlooms for the protection and development of the handloom industry.
Further to this effort, the Ministry of Textiles launched “Handloom Mark” scheme with effect from 28.06.2006 for promoting and preserving the Indian handloom products and securing a premium position in the domestic as well as international market. This provides a collective identity to the handloom products of India for popularizing the hand woven products originating from the handloom sector. Thus, the Handloom Mark does not necessarily guarantee a bench mark quality for the product, but ensures only the origin of the product.

Though the weavers produce rich variety of designs and textures, there is not much emphasis on the quality of the product due to various reasons. Experience of implementing Handloom Mark in the past years indicate that this has served the limited purpose of production of cloth by handlooms and not been able to address the quality related parameters which are integral for development of handloom as a niche product.

It is stressed on the need to produce a fabric “with no defect and no effect on environment” and develop “Indian Handlooms” brand for assuring quality products meeting social and environmental compliances.

Share you valuable views and opinions on the concept paper.

Respected Sir, We can provide free ecommerce portal(platform) to these SME's and assist them promoting it on social media. To ensure quality to the end user we can have quality norms laid and customer surveys for improvement. This cost to operate the portal can recovered once the good is sold with marginal cost. It will also help SME's to reduce their investement as we would assist them with virtual inventory and stock or make to order concept. We have a solution for the same.

Option-1 Give targets to all embassies in the world where India opened office. Must display our handlooms and handicrafts. option-2: Open show rooms in all airports. this must be direct cooperative society not by agents. Option-3: Please see that all our politicians buy only from Khadi and Gramodyog. option-4 : Make all the handlooms suitable for the uniforms given in govt offices. All options are with government why they ask suggesions from public?

India is famous for handlooms from a longtime. The brand value of the handlooms gradually decreased. In order to increase the brand value, we need to tie up with flipkart, amazon.in etc well established website for a trial run. we will get lot of reviews through bigdata. For eg: Isha foundation has initiated the similar concept. its running very successful. Success mantra: 1. No compromise on quality 2. better communication with customers

Encourage good marketing. May be it it will be a good idea that there can be mini stalls at all Kalyan mantap / marriage halls and other private function places. This can be bought by the visitors as gifts to the newly wed. This also can avoid Cash handling

Indian Handlooms and Handicrafts needs mordernisation and should be used to tailor current fashion trends and designs. Indian Handlooms should be used to design apparels and dresses which suits foreign tourists and the shops should be favourably located at Tourists centers. Each tourist center can have their culture centric designs, like Varanasi can have Skirts and Tops designed with Benarsi embroidery and Beads. Packing and stitching should be of international standards.
