Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

Along the railway track, the land owned by Railways, can be given on lease to private sector for following purposes and it will generate good revenues. 1. Fisheries 2. Agriculture 3. Flower Plantations 4. Dairy/Animal Husbandry and a lot other ideas can be explored. It will not only generate additional revenues, but also help railways in the beautification of railway property.

The Indian Railways can increase non-fare revenue by offering several Value-added services: 1. 5-star catered meals in a special coach 2. Internet access 3. Business conference services 4. Business auxiliary services (photocopy, email, fax, video conferencing, etc) 5. Guided tours for small groups using shunting locos instead of the bigger ones 6. Advertising within train coaches using LCD / projectors 7. Point-to-point courier services 8. Vintage train services (steam engines)

1. Add one rupee per passenger for accidental insurance. 2. Provide option of food in ticket fare. 3. Employ more TTEs to check fraudulent activities. 4. Make showing the ticket compulsory at exit gates, like metro stations.

In a Express train in a.c bogie or 2nd or 3rd tier bogie at night we have to keep looking for our stoppage or station in the dark.if there are displayed boards in the bogie telling the next station arriving it would be a great help.

We should correlate Road transport (State Bus transport) with rail transport. Same Airport to railway. This can be used for both passenger and goods. We can combine goods and passenger-- for example I can travel with my scooter in train. This facility can keep high fare so more revenue.

Railways should have a Luggage check-in counter for people who want to travel with ease and comfort. which will be a chargeable service. Railways should have a Railway Lounge where travels can wait and have facilities like that in Airport Lounge for a charge.

Respected sir/madam, When we think of our Revenue its mainly depends on Agriculture. So, we are very proud when the taxes on those agricultural transportation if avoided and to be given more weight-age for less transportation fare. Thanking you. Sincere VVRao

As India railway being largest public engaging service.Rail way shuould increase the advertisement revenue, which are not affecting disturbance to the public. some ex below.. 1. fix LED televison in each compartment- 50% view showing DD news, 50% local advertisement. 2. compartments have uniform colour and can have advertisements like strip, for ex if you take the compartment 70 % uniform colour, 30 % down portion can have advertisements.

1) Commercial Advertisement in Paper Tickets. 2) Commercial Advertisement at Roof-Shed, Walls in Railway Stations. 3) Commercial Advertisement at Level-Crossings Guard Rooms. 4)Commercial Advertisement at Wall of Railway Foot-Bridge. 5) Commercial Advertisement through Public Address Systems in Railway Stations during any Train Related announcements.
