Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

There are few things which can be done: 1. Recovering huge tracts of encroached Railway lands across the country. Develop them to have commercial buildings and let it out. These properties can easily fetch good rent and advance as they are located in areas which are used most frequently by travellers. 2. Rather than letting Railway assets deteriorate on lands, sell them off in auction. 3. Close supervision of work done by contract employees thereby avoiding billing on non-workers.

crores of valued scraps are dumped aside of all railway paths after completing the some works, please invite tenders and sell it, this itself is a huge gain and control the salary with respect to minimum salary, equalize the salary in all firms. I understand that the salary is different with firms to firms which are allowed by the beneficiaries of the politicians, stop this as well as limit control for all retired peoples pension, all M.P's M.L.A's salary stop being a nation service.

There are lot of station which are in mid of cities or markets if there will some shops or showroom are built by railways and they are given to the people on rent then a fixed revenue will come to gov. Account.

if we can introduce online cargo booking, like online ticket, people will book there goods through online cargo booking, if we can pickup their material form IRCTC its good,(Bikes, home goods ext...),but if we cannot invest for local pickup expenditure,give it to the third party Vendors for pickup the goods or customer will come & handover their goods to IRCTC counter people are ready to pay, if we can provide facilities to them, because nowadays people are looking easy life and better price

Try to start cashless fare system in all counters. Try to start more and more local trains with highest compartments. Try to increase more coaches in express trains. Playings Songs and advertisement in all stations.

To reduce city traffic Indian railway must start a special local trains in selected city and all capitals to reduce traffic. and it will help people also and revenue of railway also. Like in bangalore railway have track but train like local is not there. and some areas like City railway station to yelahanka, or hebbal, marathhalli junction, white field station, mysore road bidadi station. people get benefitted.

By entering city Zone A train must have stop to all stations. so that passangers are benifitted and railway also. Traffic also reduced in city. Railway projects are very slow. any Railway line or new project must finish by one year or two years span. Like one project I observed in karnataka Gulbarga to Bidar is very slow. Bangalore mysore double line project also.

Raliway stations in most city's are hub for 24x7 Activity. The activities create a micro economy that as it stands today railway doesn't benefit form. If we can compete in the space with 3 outcomes - 1. All parking is collected by railway may be by awarding contracts for monthly payments 2. Inviting shops to sale food and beverages at local market prices to compete by renting the space without additional excise duties 3. Leveraging and repurpose existing land around stations

A medical store must be available in long running train. And doctor of first aid treaatment for passagers provided on demand also. food quality and a water bottle must be provided for sleeper or reserved passangers. present food quality in train selling is poor quality. It is very bad experiense for most passangers. Avoid low quality food and water supply system in trains. controlling begger is big issue for train. It reflects India for world class.

T.T.E. must have cashless payment fecility. so that any passangers can purchase a ticket in train itself while travelling. Like onwards journey or any other travelling plan according to passangers requirements. He is entitled for journey modification in train itself, by paying cashless T.T.E.
