For long and medium distance trains there could be an on-board shop which will sell essential items that is available at platform such as packaged food (cake, sweets, potato chips biscuit, packed sandwiches etc.) drinks (fruit juice, soft drinks), magazines, toys etc.
paid section for children : children often get bored in long train journey. there can be a small space for children where they can spend some fun time on payment basis. seats in this coach may be costing extra.

Please have multiple food vendors at each station with the stations having cleaner look as well as maintained well without stink. The food should be able to be ordered from any upcoming station that can be delivered in the train. Quality of food should be ensured always. Big names like Pizza Hut, Kadambam, Adigas, McDonalds, Maiyas, MTR all of them should be allowed to setup stalls at various stations and cater to passenger needs on the coming trains. This will ensure revenue for the staitions.

2. Again, if you visit the railway terminals in any developed country, you will see that they use the space to build huge shopping complexes and hotels attracting the millions that pass through the stations to dine, to shop, to entertain etc... Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney, Yokohama, Milan are a few examples. They have fashion stores, hotels, restaurants... and even exhibitions on festive seasons and the revenue is probably far more that the ticket revenue! This can be PPP model.

The biggest asset that railway has is it's platforms and land owned near platforms. In sync with India's non-renewable plans, the only way I feel it's possible for railways to generate non-fare revenue is use the platforms roofs and space around it to create a grid of solar network and sell that to National Power Grid. Yes, the cost of setting up plants in huge but it will a long term plan for generating non-fare revenues. Also, its high time we have to bring automation to railways now.

Dear sir,
I have a suggestion which is again a 'fare-revenue' for indian railways. I am a traveller, would like to travel different places in India. But, I require a budget travel. So I would like to take my vehicle along with me wherever I go. Detailed writeup included.
Please consider sir.
Thanks,
Karthikeyan

When the pay and pension increases are implemented as per pay commissions, free or concession tickets to railway and defense employees should be withdrawn. They should only avail as per the senior citizen concession only.
Railways has huge prime land near stations and should open Rail Yatri Niwas similar to New Delhi with multi cusion restaurants
Railway should remove non productive dead wood employees.
Railway should balance between employee to production ratio in manufacturing units.

If we check there are lots of space available at almost each and every platform of railways station and same time we can see the passengers are suffering for the shelter. We can build the hotels to stay with all facilities with charges on private partnership basis to maintain the quality as wall as earning potential. This will not only give the earning but also help the to make the platform and railway well maintain and systematic source of transports. This helps to improve the standards of living
