Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

Develop big railway Station into a small mall. 1. Start healthy food restaurant/ coffee shop outside or at entrance of railway station. 2. Start family wear shop. 3. Start Game zone in the train and station at relatively low ticket rate. 4. Develop proper time schedule to avoid side tracking of local trains or 5. else create different line track for local trains between some important stations where huge crowd doings updown during office hrs. Like Ahmadabad-Vadodara.

There is vast unused land of indian railways throughout the country. Can it be used to be given on lease to farmers to grow various crops which can be used for revenue generation?

1.Make glass coaches and make railways more attractive with alarm systems and smoke detectors.Give hawkers authorized railway uniforms with some revenue goes to railways on selling products. 2.Use LED lights in coaches with a chamber near pantry for a doctor or health professional that can generate revenue on-board.LED will save energy and hence is economical. 3.Use more electronic items with digital transactions in every stall .GPS should be availed via Wi-fi to every passenger smartphone.

A few Suggestions from what I have seen abroad: 1. Whenever the rail tracks enter into a major city, the tracks should be taken underground so that a large area of land now used for tracks become available for commercial purpose. Since the property costs are so high in major cities, the rental income from such released land will be far more than the cost to make the tracks underground. You will see this in all developed countries. to be continued....

1. Auction outside space above window of each coach for advertisement 2. invite sponsorship for all routes of Rajdhani and Satabdi.

Multi storied well maintained dormitories will cater public at cheaper prices and also earns thousand crores of rupees every year, if the project is properly planned, built and operated upto the satisfactory levels of public which revenue is going to private hotel owners presently.

There has been maximum weight allowed per class per passenger, with the time it has died result one passenger carries unlimited luggage Railway should restrict and for excess it should be charged. Second Railway should open up freight booking booth in every city like transporter. presently person has to go to station for booking of luggage Like in-flight sale encourage in train sale of gift article eatables etc Withdraw all concessions to awardees, padma awardees, from all others who afford

Food in Trains: Increase vendors Why can't they provide 2 or 3 vendors in one train. Vendors should be competitive. Then only food quality will be good and also customers will get the food at reasonable prices. Food menu in online and also in the trains When Lalu is there as a minister, vendors shows their menu card with cost. Now it is not like that. Even though they provide less items in menu,they are charging same/more amount. Why cant you provide Option to pay online for food?

Sir i have also witnessed at various stations that there are huge steel scrap is lying (rejected wagons etc)around the stations. those are lying form various months & are getting corroded. The process of selling them as a scrap to be taken on priority basis.
