Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

1. Railways currently provide seat selection as a preference and seat is allocated if available as per requirement . It can start providing option to pay and select specific seats by providing seat maps like airways for people willing to pay for specific seats. Run it on premium trains as a project and then make it available on all reserved trains

Increase and reschedule trains to get maximum passengers.there is only 2 trains to Kerala from Bangalore on Fri. Sat. Sun. whereas there are many pvt buses running charging huge rates. If there are additional trains during week ends to and from Kerala including GR to be made daily . railways can increase its revenue ,it can also increase the number of coaches in the existing trains .more trains are required in the weekends ,now the revenue that can come to rly are taken away by pvt bus operator

form a special unit that will go around all the main railway routes and sell all the waste railway lines and other iron spare parts lying around the country for many years. this will come up to many crores of rupees. also can sell all the old wooden railway sleepers to make money.

I would like to suggest IR, that they can use new Safe and secure entry booth for passenger entry like as installed in almost every metro, because i think every year IR loose 20/30% Revenue because of without tickets passengers( sometime i also do this😊) So this will definitely increase the revenue for IR.

1)the use of solar pannels should increase in order to curb the expenses 2)mode of entertainment should be provided at railway stations,as the people who want to catch another train can halt and watch a movie or motivationals shows, kids shows should be shown by which people will get some time to spend there.. 3)in todays scenario the main problem in almost all railway station is parking of vehicle, which should be made automated by cards and the capacity of it should increase at all levels

First and foremost suggestion i want to give with regards to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Please spread awareness among passengers or fellow citizens that donot throw garbage/Waste outside the window while tains was/is at platform or while moving(especially) because its not possible for any authority to collect that or remove that. 2nd think i want to suggest is this provide small dustbin at every berth/ if not possible then for every coach and paste stickers or use some other means to aware.

There is a large rush from Kalyan to Thane (Central Line). 70 % of public depart at Thane and go to trans harbour line. They have no option to go direct to trans harbour line. There exists a track from Parsik Tunnel which goes directly to harbour line. Please start that track so that rush will decrease by 70 %. The other suggestion is that A track which goes from kalyan to vasai via Kopar, should be extended to Andheri. There should be a track from Kalyan To Andheri.
