The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

: वेस्ट मैनेजमेंट पर (Waste Management) "To make the Mahashivratri Mela zero-waste, we can set up 'Green Waste Hubs' at every 500 meters. These hubs should have separate bins for dry and wet waste. Additionally, we can partner with local biogas plants to convert all organic waste (like flowers and food leftovers) into compost or energy right on-site." "I suggest a complete ban on single-use plastic. Instead, we can promote the use of 'Donas and Pattals' made from leaves and reusable clay cups (Kulhads). We can also set up 'Water ATMs' where devotees can refill their own bottles, reducing the need for plastic water bottles. "We can use a QR-code based reward system. Devotees who deposit their trash in the correct bins can scan a code to receive a 'Green Citizen' digital certificate or a small eco-friendly souvenir. This will encourage responsible behavior through gamification."

Sir I want to take your kind attention towards the new anti nationalist party cockroach party as government of India should not take it lightly as opposition could use it as a major tool in the upcoming elections of 2029, the way people are joining this party is very concerning to me as they are targeting the unemployed youth and they are large in number. I suggest government to bring a new law that whoever gives such statements which are against the nation should be sued of deshdroh and government should make tie ups with private sectors to give employment to the youth because now unemployment will be a great issue in the coming politics, so it’s the need of the hour to give employment to the Gen Z.

To successfully transition the Mahashivratri celebrations at Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple into a Zero Waste Mahotsav, the administration should implement a strict "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" framework for all temple activities. First, instead of distributing paper pamphlets or maps, large wooden stands featuring QR codes can be placed at entry gates so devotees can scan and access temple schedules digitally on their mobile phones. Second, the massive volume of discarded coconut shells from offerings can be collected and sent to local small-scale industries to be upcycled into eco-friendly charcoal or handmade decorative items. Finally, dedicated, color-coded "Floral Offering Bins" should be installed across the premises to keep flower garlands entirely separate from plastic packaging, ensuring they can be immediately routed to vermicomposting units or processed into organic incense sticks. This approach will significantly lower the festival's carbon footprint while activel

Use banana or sal leaves for distributing food and prasad.Clay Cups: Serve water or traditional drinks in reusable clay cups (kulhads).Cloth Pouches: Encourage devotees to carry prasad home in small cotton bags. Collect offered flowers daily to manufacture organic incense sticks.Natural Dyes: Process marigold and rose petals into safe, natural colors.On-site Composting: Turn remaining organic floral waste directly into temple garden compost. Place clearly labeled bins for wet, dry, and hazardous waste.Devotional Signage: Use slogans like "Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi" to inspire clean habits.Eco-Guards: Deploy youth volunteers at major spots to guide correct disposal.

The Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela can become a model “Zero Waste Mahotsav” through practical and community-driven solutions under the theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi.” Color-coded waste bins for wet, dry and hazardous waste should be installed across the mela area with volunteer support for segregation. Organic temple waste such as flowers and leaves can be converted into compost or incense sticks, a model already used in several temple towns of Maharashtra. To reduce plastic waste, vendors should use kulhads, leaf plates, bamboo cutlery and cloth bags. Similar plastic-free initiatives in Sikkim and Indore proved highly effective. Free water refill stations can further reduce plastic bottle waste. A “Green Volunteer Sena” involving NSS, NCC and local youth can guide visitors about cleanliness and sustainable practices. QR-based systems for maps, donations and waste reporting can improve management.

A “Zero Waste Food Donation Network” can collect untouched extra food from bhandaras and distribute it safely to shelters and needy people through volunteer coordination, reducing food wastage during the mela.
