The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

Sir, I would like to draw your attention to the number of IIT graduates joining the three scientific communities of India ie ISRO, BARC & DRDO . In this regard I would like to recommend that a certain number of seats (say 5-10%)in all IITs be reserved for students opting for these three top scientific communities of India. You may give such students free education against their commitment to serve the nation as scientist in any of these groups. So at least few IIT graduates will join these.

Make one portal/website where people/society will submit there problems and challenges. Universities will try to solve them with society's help.

One of the best ways to foster social responsibility is through social entrepreneurship. This will not only result in the entrepreneur working for the society but all the employees of the social enterprise. For this, it is essential that the universities have programmes and special entrepreneurship cells in each college to nurture and encourage social entrepreneurs.

With respect to medical education and its application, acc to survey govt.spends lots of money for govt medical colleges and providing scholar students with best of facilities in very low fees of mere 6000 per annum which is 4-5lac in private colleges.most of the health centres lack scholar Doctors as these students dont want to practice there on the contorary in private hospitals where they can earn well..thus i propose to take all fees of govt students if they r not willin to take rural posting

All of you are very nice on your field regarding medical field'because you are sharing your views here i want to attract your attention regarding several allopathic treatments going now a days. I think that studentsof 9th and 10th standard should provide information about antibiotic resistivity, and steroidal medicines, etc.so that they can filter them in there daily unnecessary treatments, because many doctors are prescribing unnecessarily Only for making money and quick relief.and murdering lives

We can bring out initiatives and positive changes to the society only when we understand the society. Most of us have been taught to score good in exams and to secure a job . The students must be aware of the society if we want them to deliver something really good for the society.

Our education system must focus on our society. How many of us know what is happening in our society ? Our curriculum must be evolved according to our society . The concept of one size fits all doesn't really work out. This has been happening since our Independence and is still going on. We have several educational regulatory bodies . All of these bodies focus on the quality of schools , classrooms , restrooms etc. The focus must be on the curriculum and on the quality of Teachers.
