Examination reforms that focus on problem-solving, critical thinking and reasoning skills are critical to improving quality at the secondary level. Such reforms will change the teaching–learning processes and improve learning outcomes. In recent years, CBSE has introduced wide-ranging examination reforms in schools affiliated to it, such as Class X Board Examination has been made optional, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) has been strengthened so that the students, are assessed on an ongoing basis for their holistic development, a system of grading in place of marks has been introduced. The objectives are to look at the existing systems and suggest reforms which would help better assessment of students.

2 of 2)The problem lies not in Examination system per se, but the value society attaches to Toppers, this is because only toppers get a chance to admit to best quality institutions like IITs, IIMs etc which eventually land them in a fat salary job. Since these quality institutions are in short supply the competition is extremely high, hence the undue stress on kids. So, the problem lies not in Examination system but huge Demand-Supply gap in quality education.

1 of 2)The competition and merit based Examination system, is a time tested concept that has been working well to reward the best. There is absolutely no reason to replace it with CCE, because eventually CCE will also succumb to same competition if not more by parents trying to pressurize kids with more Extracurricular activities in areas where the kid has no aptitude to perform. Parents will send kids to Music, karate, dancing, football classes etc, this will only worsen the current situation..

Kids should learn to discuss and debate from childhood. Mother tongue should be utilized in debates. Let them discuss and debate on many subjects including politics. Let them learn how to use language effectively. This will help them resolve many problems effectively when they are adults. Today education means INFORMATION FEEDING. Not of much use. Kids do not even memorize things. Western system says memorizing is bad. But it helps brain work well. LOGIC, DISCUSSION, DEBATE too boost brain power

The main focus of education should be on three things 1) LOGIC 2) Maths 3) LANGUAGE. Today we see a lot of problem in make some one under stand a thing. Kids lack LOGIC very much in day to day life. They must learn techniques to effectively discuss, properly think and arrange logic and prepare and present ideas. This is the number one thing kids needed. Then MATHS. Then LANGUAGE. If the kid has all three of these, they learn anything and many social problems shall disappear.

I have a idea that doesnt belong to this discussion . We should have a student account portal on the lines of UAN so as to the students can upload their marksheets in a portal by verifying it through the authority. It will help the students a lot as they wont have to carry their originals evrywhere and they can quote their unique student number at the place of requirement. Similarly companies or institution too can make use of this portal. It willl be major step towards digital india.

Because of competitive exams students are some or the other way forced to join the coaching classes especially for IIT-JEE exam and it is also supporting the parallel economy.Even the studies in school are not good and sufficient to crack these exam.So there is a urgent need of reform in senior secondary education.

CCE does not go in tune of NCF. Both says different things. NCF and exam pattern should be monitored by one agency only either NCERT or CBSE. At present schools do not know what they are doing. In principle CCE is being executed in school as a burden, since advocates are also confused whey they have aspired for. Exam should not be a stress for the students. NCERT and CBSE sit together since both worked in isolation and the result is depressing...

Every child has his/her pace of learning. Our present education system gives a child a single year to complete around 5-6 subjects, on an average of 8-10 chapters per subject in which he might not be actually interested. In my opinion, a child should be given a choice to choose the number of subjects in which he wants to give an exam. Say for example, if he has 5 core subject. He should be given the option to choose minimum 3 to clear his grade.

Examination system is pathetic here in Tamil Nadu, especially in Higher Secondary Level; TN students do not stand a chance in competitive exams such as IIT JEE - the reason being, TN State Board Exam pattern is out and out memory-based. While the CBSE goes from one change after another, TN State Board remains static and stale. There has not been a revision of the syllabus since 2006. If a student just mugs up the answers for all those question papers from 2006 to 2014, she is sure to get centum.
