Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, in Karnataka State has been selected by the Ministry of Urban Development as one of the 100 smart cities to participate in the “Smart City” Challenge Stage-2 by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation was constituted in the year 1962 by combining two cities separated by a distance of 20 kilometers. This was a unique experiment in urban development history. The area of this Corporation is 202.3sq.kms, spread over 45 revenue villages. The population of the city as per the 1991 Census was 7 lakhs. The present population is nearly more than 9.43 lakhs. Under the Government of India Act of 1850, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal council was established on August 15, 1855.

Fire Brigade Service should be strategically located and use more advance equipment. Take help of foreign companies to plan and implement.

Water supply with Smart meters installed in every house. No borewells or open wells. Incentives for not wasting water. Develop lakes and other water bodies.

KLE PRERANA PU COLLEGE Used coconut shells can be collected and buried under the ground, this will reduce the number of flies in the city and at same time many deseases can be controlled.

Solid waste Management and Recycling Plants on the city outskirts at 20 KM. This plan should be comprehensive and should have sophisticated technology.This should be a good source of income to the HDMC corporation.

K.L.E. PRERANA PU COLLEGE 1. After every 5km vehicle service points must be installed. 2. Roof water harvesting must be made compulsor for every house and also in schools and colleges. 3. Welfare committees must be formed in the city to which citizens can approach before approaching the government. 4. Hard water must be first treated and then soft water must be circulated in the city.This will reduce the formation of scum which will pollute the water resource of the city

I think Dharwad/Hubli should team up with Indian Institute of Technology to come up with 1. Solar Farms 2. Wind Mill farms and other alternative methods. to tackle the electricity shortage faced by our city. The project should be able to provide atleast 25% of the city needs. This will be a great start for the New IIT dharwad.

PRERANA PU COLLEGE Kavya Addanagi Smart people are the one who are able to face and defend themselves from various critical situations physically as well as mentally.Therefore self defence camps must be organised at school and college levels so the present children can become strong citizens of the futrure. these camps must be arranged specially for girls so that they can face the toughest of the tough situaions easily.This will also reduce the rape percentage ofthe city.
