Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

1)First Stop beggars in trains. 2)Attitudes of vendors are not good. They are taking abnormal rates from passangers and not giving quality food. Vendors are doing arguments with passangers. 3) Not properly handling parcels & luggages. 4) Coolies damages material packing and receiving material short. Why shortage comes do not know. Railway person do not take proper care of material. 5) Material do not reach in time and safe. do not get safe service of materials.Railway dept.have to take care

Sir, for railways my suggestion is to increase existing train speeds to at least 250km/h on existing "non-dedicated" broad gauge lines and start more mail services resulting in more non-revenue profit. Railways should also fine illegal vendors heavily. Also, there should be a tax on mail services.

By increasing fares revenue can't be increased. Railways should cut-off the losses which they come by. How much the cancellation ticket income they're generating? Still why losses? So much empty spaces are available within the station & quarters why they can't use to full caliber? Solar panels, entertainment channels be started. Light weight trains be introduced for nearby routes/6-8hrs journey time routes(less fuel usage) Please see attachment.. Form a team with young people..
