Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, On this Independence Day, as we celebrate our freedom and the progress of Viksit Bharat, my humble view is that good governance in Panchayat Raj must be a key focus. Panchayat Raj is the grassroots of our democracy, where governance touches people’s lives. While most departments follow a transfer policy of 3–5 years, in Panchayat Raj this is often not applied. In my village, Pasuvapatti (Erode District, Tamil Nadu), the Panchayat Secretary is serving in the same post for over 15 years without transfer. Such long postings are creating vested interests, corruption risks, and complacency, which weaken democratic spirit. A strong transfer policy and regular review in Panchayat Raj System can ensure transparency, accountability, and people-centric governance in every village.
