PM Sir, Namaskar,
I am writing to draw your attention to the growing environmental crisis caused by the indiscriminate use of polythene bags (polybags) in the country. These non-biodegradable bags pose a severe threat to our ecosystem, public health, and municipal infrastructure.
Polybags choke drains, contaminate soil and water bodies, and harm wildlife. They take hundreds of years to decompose, releasing toxic microplastics.
Burning polythene releases poisonous fumes, contributing to respiratory diseases. Ingestion by animals leads to fatal blockages.
Accumulation in sewers causes flooding during monsoons, damaging property and disrupting services.
Despite alternatives like cloth, paper, and biodegradable bags, polybags remain widely used due to their low cost and convenience.
In light of the above concerns, I urge you to raise issue in Mann ki baat & instruct your ministry/ States to impose an immediate ban on the manufacture, distribution, and use of polythene bags.
