The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi: Youth-Led Zero Waste Mahotsav Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela can become a national model where faith and sustainability work together. My idea is a “Green Seva System” powered by youth volunteers, local vendors and simple technology. Pilgrims should receive QR-based eco passes guiding them to refill stations, compost zones, clean toilets and plastic-free stalls. Plastic plates and bottles can be replaced with steel utensil banks and biodegradable alternatives. NCC, NSS and college students can form a “Green Volunteer Sena” to run awareness drives and reward-based cleanliness campaigns. Pilgrims who return waste or use refill stations can earn digital “Punya Points.” Wet waste can become compost for farmers, while dry waste is tracked through QR-based segregation systems.

“Bhakti with responsibility towards nature is a truly inspiring vision. Transforming Mahashivratri into a Zero Waste Mahotsav is a wonderful initiative that promotes both devotion and environmental awareness. Cleanliness, sustainability, and public participation together can make this celebration a great example for the entire country. Appreciating the efforts of District Administration Baghpat for such a meaningful campaign.

Namaskar. My humble suggestion is the entire area surrounding the temple should be declared as No Plastic Zone. Nature based packing materials should be available at market and those who manufacture and sell arecanut plates, Banana Leaf etc should be allowed to sell their products to reduce the usage of plastic items. All eateries and hotels should have a proper recycling system to use steel plates and clean them properly and use it. Bamboo baskets for carrying fruits and flowers inside the temple should be made mandatory. Pilgrims can buy such baskets with a deposit and if they return back the basket to the shop and get back their deposit money. Dustbins should be placed and it should be cleared every 2 or 3 hours intervals. Strict ban of sale of plastic sachets like shampoos, soap and hair dye near water bodies should be imposed to prevent water pollution. These suggestions should be considered by the officials & implemented in all important temples across our country. Jai Hind 🇮🇳

The "Nirmalya" to Organic Fertilizer Initiative (Flower Waste Management) The Idea: Convert the massive volume of offered flowers (marigolds, roses) and leaves into high-quality organic compost or incense sticks instead of letting them end up in landfills or water bodies. How it works: * Set up clearly marked Nirmalya Collection Bins exclusively for organic offerings near the main exit. Partner with local self-help groups (SHGs) or agricultural startups to process the flowers into organic manure or charcoal-free dhoop (incense). The Incentive: Package the produced compost beautifully and distribute or sell it back to devotees as "Prasad Compost" for their home gardens. 2. Digital Prasad & Smart Queueing System The Idea: Reduce the physical waste of paper, plastic packaging, and discarded tokens by digitizing parts of the festival experience. How it works: Implement a WhatsApp or app-based system where devotees can register for a specific Darshan time slot, eliminating

: वेस्ट मैनेजमेंट पर (Waste Management) "To make the Mahashivratri Mela zero-waste, we can set up 'Green Waste Hubs' at every 500 meters. These hubs should have separate bins for dry and wet waste. Additionally, we can partner with local biogas plants to convert all organic waste (like flowers and food leftovers) into compost or energy right on-site." "I suggest a complete ban on single-use plastic. Instead, we can promote the use of 'Donas and Pattals' made from leaves and reusable clay cups (Kulhads). We can also set up 'Water ATMs' where devotees can refill their own bottles, reducing the need for plastic water bottles. "We can use a QR-code based reward system. Devotees who deposit their trash in the correct bins can scan a code to receive a 'Green Citizen' digital certificate or a small eco-friendly souvenir. This will encourage responsible behavior through gamification."

Sir I want to take your kind attention towards the new anti nationalist party cockroach party as government of India should not take it lightly as opposition could use it as a major tool in the upcoming elections of 2029, the way people are joining this party is very concerning to me as they are targeting the unemployed youth and they are large in number. I suggest government to bring a new law that whoever gives such statements which are against the nation should be sued of deshdroh and government should make tie ups with private sectors to give employment to the youth because now unemployment will be a great issue in the coming politics, so it’s the need of the hour to give employment to the Gen Z.
